On June 12, 2021, local time, in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Nevada, USA, ships including the "Desert Princess" cruised in front of mineral-laden rocks.

The elevation of Lake Mead, the largest artificial reservoir in North America, dropped to 1,071.53 feet, the lowest level since the Hoover Dam was impounded in 1937.

The drop in water levels is the result of persistent droughts over the past 20 years and increased demand for water in the southwestern United States.
