The coronavirus vaccination campaign continues to progress in France.

The threshold of 30 million French people having received at least one dose of vaccine was crossed on Saturday.

From June 15, adolescents from 12 years old will also have access to vaccination, an "arithmetic imperative" for Professor Fischer.

In France, the health situation continues to improve day after day.

The pace of vaccination remains sustained: a "very strong increase" has been observed among 18-49 year olds.

The threshold of 30 million French people having received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine was crossed on Saturday.

From Tuesday, minors over 12 years old will also be able to be vaccinated.

An "arithmetic imperative" to approach group immunity according to Professor Fisher.

But the Delta variant, of Indian origin, could again create panic.

Especially since the curfew pushed back, the evenings resume as at Invalides where two giant evenings were organized on Friday and Saturday.

30 million French people have received at least one dose of vaccine

The threshold of 30 million French people who have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine was crossed on Saturday, announced Prime Minister Jean Castex, who called for "winning the battle against the virus".

"Objective achieved! Thank you to all those who are mobilizing for vaccination", published the head of government on Twitter, while the figure of 30 million first-time injected was initially expected for next Tuesday.

✅ Objective achieved!

Thank you to all those who are mobilizing for vaccination: it is thanks to you that we will win the battle against the virus.

For the time being, the pace remains sustained, with nearly 400,000 first-time vaccines each day and a constant increase in the 50-59 and 60-69 age groups, as well as a "very strong" increase (+6 % since opening at the end of May) among 18-49 year olds, according to the Ministry of Health.

For Professor Fischer, vaccinating teenagers is "an arithmetic imperative"

The vaccination of minors over 12 years old, which must begin on Tuesday, is an "arithmetic imperative" to approach group immunity against Covid-19, assured Professor Alain Fischer, "Mr. vaccine" of the government, in an interview with the

 Journal du Dimanche

.

"The idea of vaccinating teenagers instead of reluctant adults is ethically unacceptable" but "opening Tuesday to teenagers is justified" because "it is an arithmetic imperative: to achieve group immunity, it is necessary to vaccinate 90% of 12 to 100 years old, so that it will remain out of reach even by vaccinating almost all adults, "he says.

The government announced on June 2 that young people between the ages of 12 and 18 could be vaccinated from June 15.

A drop in vaccination this summer?

Despite the pace of vaccinations, some are warning against a possible drop in the pace as summer approaches, even though the level of coverage is far from sufficient in the event of a strong resumption of the pandemic.

The head of the Ile-de-France Health Agency, Aurélien Rousseau, notably noted this week a recent slowdown in appointments.

The epidemiologist Pascal Crépey spoke of a "risk of renouncing the second dose, or even both doses".

In addition, as already observed for several weeks, vaccination coverage tends to stagnate among seniors, with around 75% fully vaccinated in 75-79 year olds and 66% in those over 80 years old.

However, the Doctolib site does not foresee a drop in the rate of injections, which should remain at nearly 600,000 per day (1st, 2nd dose or single dose), and the Minister of Health Olivier Véran has ruled out any reversal of the population, the slots available being explained by an increase in "supply".

In Strasbourg, a race against time against the Delta variant

The Regional Health Agency (ARS) of the Grand Est on Saturday announced an "immediate action plan" after the detection of a "Delta variant cluster (said Indian)" within the Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg.

Four positive cases are "already identified" and 43 contact cases are "under investigation," said the ARS in a press release.

Targeted vaccination operations are planned over the weekend, as well as a "strong mobilization of anti-covid mediators".

The prefecture has declared the school closed.

The situation continues to improve at the hospital

The pressure on the hospital continues to decrease, the number of people hospitalized for Covid-19 remaining below 13,000, the lowest since the end of October, according to data released Saturday by Public Health France.

The health agency listed 12,496 people hospitalized against 12,712 the day before, with 198 admissions over the last 24 hours.

The number of people currently in critical care, who are treating the most serious cases, is 2,110 against 2,163 patients on Friday.

48 people were admitted to these services in 24 hours.

The outbreak has killed 34 people in hospital in the past 24 hours.

The improvement in the situation is mainly due to the acceleration of vaccination.

Since the start of the vaccination campaign in France, 30,159,561.

The 'very worrying' spread of the Delta variant in the UK

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has warned that the spread in the UK of the Delta variant of the coronavirus, which initially appeared in India, was "of great concern", raising fears of a postponement of the lifting of the latest anti-Covid restrictions.

"It is clear that the Indian variant is more transmissible and that cases and levels of hospitalization are increasing," the leader told Sky News on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Cornwall.

Moscow mayor decrees a week off in the face of rising cases

The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, on Saturday declared a nonworking week to stem the spread of coronavirus in the Russian capital, in the face of a drastic increase in cases of contamination.

"This last week, the situation with the spread of the coronavirus has deteriorated markedly, the number of new contaminations having reached the peaks of last year," Sergei Sobyanin said in a statement.

Moscow recorded 6,701 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, a record for the Russian capital since last December.

More than 3.7 million deaths worldwide

The pandemic has killed more than 3,787,127 worldwide since the end of December 2019, according to an assessment established by AFP from official sources on Saturday at 10 a.m.

After the United States (599,663 dead), the countries recording the highest number of deaths are Brazil (486,272), India (367,081), Mexico (229,823) and Peru (188,100), the latter country deploring the higher death toll in relation to its population.

These figures, which are based on daily reports from national health authorities, are generally underestimated.

The WHO estimates that the toll of the pandemic could be two to three times higher than that officially recorded.
