[Rural Revitalization] Diao Chaogui’s life as a counterattack for the disabled: from the subsistence allowances poor to the leader who sells one million per year

[Explanation] He suffered from polio at the age of 3, and his father died at the age of 9. The shock in life did not crush Diao Chaogui, but aroused his belief in hard work.

From poverty-stricken households with low income who cannot walk upright to "advanced individuals in poverty alleviation across the country", Diao Chaogui's story touched many people.

A few days ago, the reporter came to Bakuitian Community, Liancheng Street, Qianxi City, Guizhou Province, and interviewed Diao Chaogui.

[Explanation] In the cotton shoes processing workshop, Diao Chaogui and the employees are busy, flying needles in front of the sewing machine, and the semi-finished cotton shoes piled up the whole room.

Although his legs are disabled, Diao Chaogui has sound and dexterous hands, and he does not lose to other workers.

At the age of 3, Diao Chaogui suffered from polio and became disabled due to a high fever. He could not walk upright with his legs, so he learned to "walk" with both hands since he was a child.

Because of his inability to walk, Diao Chaogui was unable to go to school with his peers, coupled with family financial distress, after careful consideration, Diao Chaogui decided to pick up the craftsmanship he had learned from his father to make bamboo utensils and sell them.

However, the meager income still stretched the family, and it wasn't until the beginning of 2017 that their family's life had a huge turnaround.

Thanks to the assistance of street and community officials and the national poverty alleviation policies to benefit the people, Diao Chaogui and his younger brother Diao Chaohong jointly opened a cotton shoe processing workshop, Diao Chaogui was responsible for design and production at home, and his younger brother was responsible for procurement and sales outside.

The brothers embarked on the road of entrepreneurship.

At the beginning, I imagined by hand. The things I made at the beginning were very ugly, and the corners and corners made were not suitable everywhere. The hair was white when it was made, and the head was buzzing. It was really not a piece. Easy thing.

After thinking about it all the time, I wanted to take a needle to sew the insole stitch by stitch. After I tried it, I carve out the shoe pattern, but if it doesn’t work, I sew it out stitch by stitch. It's mainly me. I don't understand mathematics, and I don't know how to calculate. I use lines to surround and measure and calculate. That's how I succeeded.

[Explanation] The road to entrepreneurship was not all smooth sailing, and the brothers overcame numerous difficulties.

Because of their beautiful appearance, exquisite workmanship, and affordable prices, the cotton shoes they produced are favored by consumers, and their sales are increasing day by day.

Diao Chaogui not only paid off the loan to the cotton shoe processing workshop, but also took off the "hats" of poor households.

Usually it is not too difficult to do, you can do four to five hundred to six to seven hundred pairs a day.

Sometimes you can make a thousand pairs a day.

The (annual) sales are about 1 million yuan (RMB), and the net income is about 200,000 yuan.

At present, I still want to do it step by step. To do it, we must make it more stable.

I see his strength, no matter what (difficulties) he encounters, he always smiles and has a better mentality. Anyway, I think he lives no different from a normal person because he is a stronger person.

[Explanation] After the cotton shoe processing workshop gradually formed a scale, Diao Chaogui began to think about how to help those families who have not yet made it out of poverty.

He successively attracted many people from the community to work in cotton shoe processing workshops, and taught them the craftsmanship of cotton shoe making, leading everyone to get rid of poverty and become rich.

When encountering difficulties, he would try his best to make it, no matter how long it took, he would make it, which made me admire it very much.

For money, I think everyone earns some money. Everyone is the fellow villagers around. They do it happily. Then everyone earns a little bit of money. I think it's better.

When the scale of development becomes larger, I will call more people to take care of these folks who are studying with their children at home. Everyone can earn the money happily and do it together, so happy.

[Explanation] With their own unremitting efforts, the two brothers Diao Chaogui made a great breakthrough.

In 2021, Diao Chaogui was awarded the honorary title of National Advanced Individual in Poverty Alleviation by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council.

I want to encourage disabled friends not to be afraid of difficulties. The current national policy is very good. When you encounter difficulties, you will try your best. I hope that they will try their best to succeed and persevere like me.

Now that I get these good policies from the country, I really hope that they will have a good life like me.
