Since 1975, a series of measures has gradually emerged in the fight against domestic violence.

The first of these was to remove from the Penal Code the principle of "crime of passion", which until that date could constitute a ground of attenuating circumstance.

In the following years, awareness campaigns on domestic violence will appear, as well as national listening numbers, and reception centers for victims.

The notion of marital rape is part of the law.

Despite the developments, the fight is far from over.

In May 2021, Laurence Garnier, Senator LR, denounced many dysfunctions vis-à-vis the measures taken during the Grenelle on domestic violence, in reaction to the murder of Chahinez Boutaa.

Retrace the chronology of the measures taken over forty-five years in this video, produced by our partner Brut.
