"Over the past day, June 10, 58 forest fires were liquidated in Russia on an area of 2,561 hectares," RIA Novosti is quoted as saying.
It is noted that by midnight on June 11, 78 forest fires were active in Russia on an area of 49,917 hectares.
The maximum area of fires was registered in the Irkutsk region, where 12 fires were active on an area of 36,375 hectares.
In April 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the possibility of tougher punishment against those who set fires to hide illegal logging.
