Until now the reason why there are many people with

coronavirus

who are asymptomatic remained one of the big questions about

Covid-19

.

Now, British researchers have found the gene that explains why many people who become infected with the

coronavirus have

no symptoms.

It is the

HLA-DRB1 * 04: 01

gene

.

They discover the gene that makes many people with coronavirus asymptomatic

Researchers at the University of Newcastle (United Kingdom) have discovered that the

HLA-DRB1 * 04: 01 gene

is responsible for many people who become infected with the

coronavirus

do not have symptoms and, if they do, they are mild.

This is the first clear evidence of

genetic resistance

as this study, published in the journal

HLA

, compared severely affected people to a group of

asymptomatic

Covid-19

and used next-generation sequencing to focus on

genes

in detail and at

scale. HLA

that are clustered on chromosome 6.

Genome-wide studies can be compared to a satellite image, although the high density and complexity of the histocompatibility complex and the variation in different populations means that significant variation can be missed.

The identified human leukocyte antigen gene,

HLA-DRB1 * 04: 01

, is known to be directly related to latitude and longitude, meaning that more people in northern and western Europe are likely to have this gene and that therefore, populations of European descent will be more likely to remain asymptomatic.
