  Yongle Palace was built in the second year of Yuan Dingzong (1247). It has a history of more than 700 years. It is the largest and best-preserved Taoist temple in China. It is also known as Baiyun Temple in Beijing and Chunyang Palace in Lu County, Shaanxi. Zhenjiao "Three Grand Patriarchs".

Among them, the mural with an area of ​​more than 1,000 square meters is the most complete Taoist mural in existence in China, and is known as the "Oriental Art Gallery".

  In October 2014, cultural relic experts conducted field investigations on the frescoes in Yongle Palace.

In June 2016, the Cultural Relics Protection Technical Service Center of Dunhuang Research Institute conducted a detailed survey of the Yongle Palace murals and formulated the "Mural Protection and Restoration Design Plan", and found that the Yongle Palace murals had problems such as peeling, peeling, and chalking of the paint layer.

  In January 2019, with the approval of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China, the Cultural Relics Conservation Technical Service Center of Dunhuang Research Institute carried out experimental restoration of some murals in the Dragon and Tiger Hall of Yongle Palace in advance.

In 2021, the protection and restoration project of the Longhu Temple and Chongyang Temple murals will be launched. The diseased area of ​​the Dragon and Tiger Temple murals this time is 195 square meters, and the diseased area of ​​the Chongyang Temple murals is 353 square meters.

  According to Xi Jiulong, director of the Yongle Palace Mural Conservation Research Institute in Shanxi Province, the murals of Yongle Palace are world-renowned, and they were painted slightly earlier than the European Renaissance.

This mural restoration is the largest in the history of Yongle Palace. The restoration of the murals in the Dragon and Tiger Hall and the Chongyang Hall took two years.
