• Twenty-nine additional cases of Indian variant cases have been identified in the Landes.

  • None of the patients developed serious forms at this stage.

  • Screening and vaccination actions are organized in the department.

This Saturday, 29 cases of the Indian variant of Covid-19 were identified in the Landes, after the first two cases were detected in a family on Wednesday.

This Monday the authorities want to be reassuring.

"The health situation is not very worrying, but it deserves vigilance", summarizes Cécile Bigot-Dekeyzer, prefect of the Landes.

She recalls that the incidence rate remains moderate in the department (between 82 and 100) and that the situation is "not likely to call into question the second phase of deconfinement", announced for Wednesday by the government.

No hospitalization in sheaves

No person affected by this Indian variant in the Landes is hospitalized in intensive care at this time.

Only three are hospitalized, but because of "excess doliprane", specifies Didier Couteau, departmental delegate of the ARS.

The people concerned are relatively young and without comorbidity.

Only five of them are over 50 and only one over 75.

Only one person had received two injections of the vaccine, but the second had intervened the same day of the contamination, whereas it takes fifteen days after the second injection for maximum protection.

No link between those infected and India or England has been identified so far.

All those screened must adhere to isolation measures.

What action plan?

The health authorities widely encourage the population to be tested and they organize specific screening actions in the five companies in the secondary sector concerned and the collective accommodation center, where a case has arisen.

"The vaccination systems will be strengthened to improve the situation," adds the prefect, who recalls that 46% of the Landes population has already received an injection, and 24% both.

»Teams of mediators from the departmental association of civil protection and the Red Cross are raising awareness about screening and vaccination in the sectors where the Indian variant has been identified.

Sequencing in connection with the Lyon reference center will be carried out to find out whether it is indeed the Indian variant or rather a mutation of this variant.
