Study: 4 cups of coffee a day threatens eyesight

A new American study warned that drinking 4 cups of coffee a day may quadruple the risk of developing glaucoma, which threatens sight by four times among those who have a genetic predisposition to high intraocular pressure.

The study, which was conducted at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, stated that “glaucoma”

"We previously published research suggesting that high caffeine intake increases the risk of developing high-tension open-angle glaucoma among people with a family history of the disease," said Luis Pascual, author of the research paper and ophthalmology from the hospital.

"But in this study, we showed that the inverse relationship between high caffeine intake and insomnia was evident only among those with the highest genetic risk scores for high intraocular pressure," according to the British newspaper, "Daily Mail".

The study team concluded, according to its results, that individuals with a strong family history of glaucoma, it would be better for them to reduce their daily caffeine intake, which is the substance in coffee.
