France announced Thursday, June 3, that it was suspending its joint military operations with Malian forces as a precaution due to the political transition underway in Mali, a decision intended to put pressure on the military junta to restore a civilian government.

The exclusively French operations are maintained.

But before the situation is reassessed, the Barkhane force will operate solo in Mali.
