A rare golden soft-shelled turtle found on a farm road in Saiki City, Oita Prefecture, is on display at a local aquarium.

At the "Bansho Fish Museum" of the Freshwater Fish Aquarium in Saiki City, Oita Prefecture, a soft-shelled turtle with a golden body and a body length of about 40 cm is exhibited.

This soft-shelled turtle was donated to the aquarium at the end of last month by a man who was caught on a farm road during farm work.

According to the curator of the aquarium, the black and green pigments of general soft-shelled turtles are thought to have been lost due to mutation and turned golden, which is rare in Japan.

A man in his 70s who saw the exhibition said, "I've never seen a soft-shelled turtle like this," and looked surprised.

Naoki Miyajima, a curator of "Bansho Fish Museum," said, "Because it has a golden color, it may be auspicious for money. I want many people to come and see it."

The golden soft-shelled turtle will be on display until September.
