This Sunday, the first radio festival ended.

We missed celebrations and culture during confinement, so this Sunday, to celebrate the centenary of radio, its relationship with artistic creation and to pay tribute to the media, we are going to the Maison de la Radio to meet Emmanuel Laurentin, journalist, producer at Radio France and passionate about History.

Publicity

It was in 1963 that all the French public radio and television stations were installed in the Maison de la Radio.

This circular building welcomes the public to its concerts and broadcasts and it is for this audience that the architect Henry Bernard wanted, from the start, to endow this “House” with works of art.

The Round House, designed as a showcase for French creation.

Details from Emmanuel Laurentin

“

After World War II, there is a transfer of art from Paris, which was the capital of the arts, to New York.

And, at the same time, there were always artists who were trained in the 1930s in Paris and who continue to work.

They constitute what is called the school of Paris.

Its artists worked a lot for the great post-war construction sites, for the great architectural works of the 20th century.

La Maison la Radio is one of them, like Orly.

There is this idea of defending post-war French art and this art is the school of Paris ”

Works of art for the public

As soon as you enter, you discover the echo of François Stahly's forest; in studio 104, a bas-relief by Louis Leygue; and in foyer F, we can admire a tapestry by Pierre Soulages. But there are also lights, furniture, mosaics, paintings, in short, multiple works of art that adorn this historic monument.

 “

There is a great work by Louis Leygue which is installed in a large studio and which has radio functions since it is a question of dampening the sounds on the walls of this studio where we record works, but also, they are present in all public studios.

To be able to show the greatness of France at the time, we have here all the great artists: Bazaine, Manessier, Soulages, ... and all the others who participate in the creation of these works which are scattered throughout the Maison de la Radio. in public spaces, ”

 adds Emmanuel Laurentin.

France, the land of fine crafts

These works of art distributed to the Maison de la Radio demonstrate the capacity of craftsmanship around artists.

“

In this home, where we are, there is a very large Soulages tapestry.

It was composed in Felletin, near Aubusson, so it is the art of French tapestry.

There are also Singier and Bazaine mosaics, some of which are made by people who came from Ravenna to participate in the creation of these mosaics.

To show the capacity, precisely, of France, prestigious, to show at the same time the French technique, the French technology and also the capacity of France to be the country of craftsmanship, ”

 concludes Emmanuel Laurentin.
