There are insects that appear around this time of year every year.

In the dark evening, it attacks wherever there is light. What is the identity of this insect, also called 'Tinkerbell'?

Have you ever seen this insect that fills the black sky?

[Mr. A/University working part-time at a convenience store: It was close to the window. Even if I shoved it with a broom, it still stuck. I couldn't handle it, so it was very inconvenient.]

Another name is oriental ephemera.

This tiny insect, about 7 cm long, is also called 'Tinkerbell' from 'Peter Pan's Fairy' because of its large and colorful wings compared to its body size.

Although they look menacing due to their large population, it turns out that they were born with a pitiful fate.

[Yang Young-cheol/Professor, Department of Health, Environment and Safety, Eulji University: The legs are stretched forward like this, so they look like a mouth, but that's not a mouth, it's a front leg. Because their mouth is degenerate, they barely eat as adults, so they live for almost a day.]

Tinkerbells are not pests that spread diseases.

Since it is an insect that lives only in clean water of grade 2 or higher, if you see Tinkerbell, it means that the surrounding ecological environment is clean.

Even so, the problem is that there are too many of them, and it is said that the number of individuals has increased due to changes in the ecological environment in the last 10 years.

This insect, which mainly inhabits the tributaries of the Bukhan River, can be found in Gangdong-gu and Songpa-gu in Seoul as well as Gapyeong and Namyangju, which are close to the river.

Namyangju City is trying to eradicate Tinkerbell by installing sticky boards and shooting water cannons every year.
