Liu Kuifeng, the father of the victim girl Duoduo, told the Beijing News that the defendant Wang Mourong was sentenced to two years in prison for the crime of torture and life imprisonment for the crime of intentional injury. He decided to execute life imprisonment for several crimes.
The defendant Wang Mourong expressed in court that he chose to appeal.
Liu Kuifeng said that he was satisfied with the verdict.
The judgment of the first instance in this case showed that the court held that the defendant’s actions caused Tuo Duo to become a vegetative state and depended on all nursing care throughout his life.
The defendant Wang Mourong's methods were cruel, with serious consequences, bad circumstances and extremely bad social impact, and should be severely punished in accordance with the law.
The relevant sentencing opinions put forward by the defender were not accepted by the court.
After discussion and decision by the court’s trial committee, the verdict was as follows: Defendant Wang Mourong was guilty of abuse and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment; for the crime of intentional injury, he was sentenced to life imprisonment and deprived of political rights for life; for multiple crimes, he decided to execute life imprisonment and deprivation. The defendant Wang Mourong compensated the plaintiff Duoduo in the attached civil lawsuit for various economic losses totaling more than 128 yuan (the more than 50,000 yuan that has been paid is reduced accordingly).
The Beijing News previously reported that on May 14, 2020, a 12-year-old girl, Duoduo, was beaten by her stepmother to a coma and was rushed from Huairen City, Shanxi to the Third People's Hospital of Datong City for rescue.
The diagnosis certificate issued by the Third People's Hospital of Datong City on May 26, 2020 showed that Duoduo had subdural hematoma, diffuse brain swelling, and large-scale cerebral infarction.
At the same time, there are multiple skin ulcers and infections on the body, and multiple soft tissue damages throughout the body are anemia.
On February 9, 2021, the Procuratorate of Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province filed a public prosecution with Wang Mourong for the crime of abuse and intentional injury.
The prosecution accused that Wang Mourong often abused Duoduo by beatings, corporal punishment, pinching nails, and twisting hidden parts of the body while living with Duoduo.
Since 2020, Wang Mourong has repeatedly twisted and beaten Duo Duo’s belly, thigh roots, perineum and other parts of the body, causing multiple skin ruptures and infections throughout Duo Duo’s body, and multiple soft tissue injuries throughout the body, constituting abuse crime.
After the Spring Festival of 2020, the defendant Wang Mourong repeatedly used blunt external force to injure the victim's head.
In the early morning of May 14, 2020, Wang Mourong discovered that Duo Duo was in a coma and sent him to the doctor for treatment. After diagnosis, Duo Duo had subdural hematoma, diffuse brain swelling, and extensive cerebral infarction.
After identification, Duo Duo's head injury was a serious injury, which constituted the crime of intentional injury.
On April 15, the first instance of this case was heard in Shuozhou Intermediate Court.
During the trial, Wang Mourong argued that she simply failed to control her temper in a hurry, committed torture without knowing it, and denied intentional harm to Duo.
