Fear of heights?

Do not read on.

New York continues to add new skyscrapers.

When it seems that one more pin does not fit, another one of those tall and slender buildings appears.

The last one is One Vanderbilt, next to the mythical

Central Station

, and with the ambition to also give a lot to talk about.

But it is not its 77-story height that is most striking, nor what it has cost to build (3,000 million dollars), but the glass elevator that runs along its side designed as a tourist attraction. The so-called Ascent will fly passengers up to

369 meters above the city

from where they can see the regal Madison Avenue in all its splendor.

Summit One Vanderbilt will become the tallest office tower in

Midtown

New York.

And there is more.

For those who want to defy gravity, but prefer to do it without movement, the skyscraper has pulled one more trick up its sleeve: "totally transparent glass sky boxes" that protrude from the building and give visitors the experience of being hung 324 meters above Manhattan.

To overcome the scare, an outdoor terrace converted into the "world's highest outdoor urban alpine meadow" will provide a more subdued panorama.

All attractions are scheduled to open to the public at the end of October.

More at ground level, specifically on the second floor, the One Vanderbilt has signed the French chef

Daniel Boulud

, with a whole empire of restaurants in the country.

Le Pavilion, which has just formally opened, is a place where you can have the best vegetables and fish.

The Ascent joins the latest near-area adventures in New York, like Edge, at 30 Hudson Yards, which opened just as the pandemic broke out last year.

The mythical Empire State Building that these days celebrates its 90th birthday has also renewed its claim.
