“The Foundry of Brittany must live”, “Foundry yes, unemployed no”… It is behind these banners that between 1,200 and 2,000 people demonstrated on Saturday in the streets of Hennebont (Morbihan) to defend the factory, sale by the Renault group and blocked for more than a month by its employees.

“The population was there, local elected officials from all sides came.

It is a somewhat rare photo that we are not going to see again.

Everyone is aware of the situation, ”said Maël le Goff, CGT delegate for the Caudan site.

Renault announced on March 11 the sale of the plant in order to "guarantee a future for the site and to perpetuate jobs there".

The unions are asking them to stay in the Renault group and the return to Caudan of production volumes that have been relocated abroad.

Heir to the Forges d'Hennebont, created in 1860, the Fonderie de Bretagne has been established in Caudan since 1965, where it employs around 350 people.

Justice seized to put an end to the blockage

Two union representatives as well as the CGT are also summoned Tuesday afternoon before the Lorient court as part of a summary for the blocking of the plant which began on April 27, underlined Maël le Goff. "Fonderie de Bretagne has notified the CGT union of the factory and the main leaders of the site blocking movement of their legal action by bailiff", confirmed the Renault group.

"As expressed on May 20, Fonderie de Bretagne took legal action in order to end the blocking of the Caudan site and allow the resumption of activities under the necessary security conditions", added the automotive group which estimates "that after four weeks of blockage, it is vital that the activities of the Foundry of Brittany can resume and that the employees who wish to be able to go to their place of work again ”.
