Vietnam said, today, Saturday, that it has detected a new strain of Corona virus, which includes characteristics of the British and Indian strains of the virus.

The "VN Express" newspaper quoted Vietnamese Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long as saying that the new hybrid strain was detected through the genetic sequence of Corona virus patients in Vietnam.

It was reported that the British and Indian strains are more susceptible to infection than other strains, which may partially explain why Vietnam reported records of infection with the Coronavirus.

Vietnam was praised for its handling of the pandemic, but after a month of not recording any cases of the virus, which were transmitted locally, local cases appeared again on April 27, and on May 15, Vietnam recorded its first death from the virus in eight months.

The new cases are related to a 27-year-old man who returned to Vietnam from Japan on April 7, and a Chinese expert who entered the country for work, and who tested positive for the virus after completing a compulsory two-week quarantine.

Vietnam has officially recorded 6,396 cases, including 1,492 imported cases and 47 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

More than 3,000 of those cases have been confirmed since April 27.
