Xinhua News Agency, Macau, May 28 (Reporter Guo Xin) Statistics and Census Bureau of the Macau Special Administrative Region Government released data on the 28th, showing that Macau’s GDP in the first quarter of 2021 fell by 0.9% year-on-year in real terms, a decrease from the previous quarter’s -45.9% narrowed sharply.

  According to statistics, in the first quarter of Macau’s service exports stopped falling and rose by 4.1% year-on-year. Among them, the export of gaming services fell by 20.7% year-on-year, while exports of other tourism services increased by 88.1%; exports of goods rose by 137.7% year-on-year.

Domestic demand resumed positive growth, up 12.9% year-on-year.

Imports of goods rose by 81.7%, while imports of services fell by 2.0%.

  According to the Statistics and Census Bureau, the local economic activities of Macao residents have basically returned to the level of the first quarter of 2019, and the final consumption expenditure of households in the local area has increased by 19.2% year-on-year; due to the continued immigration control measures in various places, the final consumption of households in other places Expenditure fell by 13.2%; overall private consumption rose by 14.8% year-on-year.

  In the first quarter, the Macau SAR government continued to allocate resources for epidemic prevention. The government's final consumption expenditure increased by 0.2% year-on-year; fixed asset investment increased by 20.3% year-on-year; and the number of inbound tourists fell by 46.0% year-on-year.

  The Statistics and Census Bureau also released the latest employment survey results on the same day, showing that the overall unemployment rate from February to April 2021 was 3.0%, and the unemployment rate of local residents was 4.1%, both higher than the previous period (January to March 2021) 0.1 percentage point.

The underemployment rate was 4.8%, the same as the previous period.
