Guangdong Province issues consumer safety warnings

Guangzhou Daily (all-media reporter He Yingsi, correspondent Guangdong Municipal Supervisor) The International Children’s Day of "June 1" is coming soon, and there is a dazzling array of children's products and toys on the market.

In order to let children enjoy their holiday safely and happily, the Guangdong Provincial Market Supervision Administration issued a consumer safety warning on May 28 to remind parents to guard against children's product harm.

According to the China Product Safety and Recall Information Network, the number of recalls of children's toys and supplies (produced in China) released in China in 2020 will exceed 450, and the number of recalls will exceed 3 million.

From 2019 to 2020, according to the results of product injury monitoring in Guangdong Province, 19 sentinel hospitals across the province have monitored more than 1390 cases of injuries related to children's toys and supplies.

The main toys that cause harm to children are: toy cars, building blocks and scooters.

Among them, children’s toy vehicles ranked first among children’s toys and supplies, and 210 injuries were detected.

Among them, 123 cases were contusions and abrasions, accounting for 58.57%; 78 cases were sharp injuries, accounting for 37.14%.

Building blocks ranked second in injury, with a total of 83 cases, of which 41 cases were sharp injuries, accounting for 49.40%; 26 cases were contusions and abrasions, accounting for 31.33%.

There are also scooters that children love very much. A total of 15 cases of injuries caused by scooters are monitored, most of which are contusions and fractures caused by falls. Among them, 6 cases are ordinary scooters, and 9 cases are electric scooters; 8 cases Children under the age of 14, accounting for more than 50%.

  Consumer safety reminder:

  1. Choose children's toy cars carefully

  (1) There are three main risk points of children's toy cars:

  1. Toy cars often come with flashing lights. Staring at them for a long time can cause dizziness to children. Some toys have strong lights and can damage children's retina and cornea.

  2. The gap between the folding parts of the toy car is small, and children are easy to get their hands caught in the process of playing.

  3. Falling wheels may cause accidental ingestion, and exposed wheel axles may stab children.

  (2) Parents should pay attention to the following points when buying children's toy cars:

  1. Try not to buy a toy car with a folding structure for infants and young children. Parents should take care of the whole process during the children's play.

  2. When buying or playing toy cars for young children, check whether the toys contain small parts and whether the small parts are firm to avoid accidental ingestion.

  2. Choose building blocks (toys) carefully

  (1) There are three main risk points of building blocks (toys):

  1. The material of the building blocks is hard and the surface has edges and corners. Children may be cut or stabbed by sharp edges and corners during play.

  2. Some building blocks need to be inlaid, and children may be caught in the process of building blocks.

  3. The building blocks have small parts, and children may swallow or eat by mistake when playing.

  (2) Parents should pay attention to the following points when buying building blocks (toys):

  1. Check whether the parts of the building blocks are too small. If they are too small, it may cause children to swallow by mistake during play.

  2. Check whether the edges of the building block parts are sharp to prevent children from being cut or pinched by the building block parts.

  Three, choose scooters carefully

  (1) There are four main risk points of scooters:

  1. There are round holes and gaps on the scooter about the size of children's fingers, which can easily pinch children's fingers.

  2. The sharp edges and tips on the metal parts of the scooter are easy to cut children.

  3. Loose adjustment rods may cause children to lose their balance and fall over during riding.

  4. There is no anti-skid measures on the pedal, such as smooth surface, no anti-skid stickers or non-obvious anti-skid texture, etc. Children's feet will easily slip off the pedal when using it, causing fall injuries.

  (2) Parents should pay attention to the following points when buying a scooter:

  1. Parents pay attention to checking whether the various parts of the scooter are firm, whether there are sharp metal edges, and whether the pedals are non-slip.

  2. Appropriate safety protection devices should be worn when children are playing, and parents should try their best to stay nearby and stay away from roads and driving vehicles.

  3. When stepping on the brake, you should step on lightly to decelerate, and then step on to stop, to avoid accidents caused by emergency stop.

  4. Do not allow children under 14 years of age to use electric scooters to avoid more serious injuries.
