The health authorities in Germany reported 5,426 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day.

This is evident from the figures from Saturday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5:02 a.m.

For comparison: a week ago the value was 7082 infections.

The seven-day incidence was given by the RKI on Saturday morning as 37.5 nationwide.

The day before it was 39.8, in the previous week it was 66.8.

On public holidays like Whit Monday, fewer people see a doctor, which means fewer samples are taken and there are fewer laboratory tests.

Therefore, fewer new infections are reported.

According to the RKI, the seven-day incidences are currently higher than the national total incidence in the following federal states: Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saarland, Saxony and Thuringia.

According to the information, 163 new deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were 170 dead.

The RKI has counted 3,675,296 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, however, since many infections are not recognized.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,471,800.

The number of people who died with or with the involvement of a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 is now given as 88,350.

The nationwide seven-day R-value was, according to the RKI situation report from Friday evening, as the day before, at 0.72 the previous day.

This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 72 more people.

The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides;

if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.
