Initially scheduled for Cannes 2020 and then awarded a Cannes 2020 Label following the cancellation of the festival last year, Wes Anderson's new film,

The French Dispatch

has still not been released in theaters.

This film shot in Angoulême will finally be presented in official competition at the next Cannes film festival, the organizers announced on Friday.

A world premiere, before a theatrical release for October 22 in the United States, and around the same date in France.

The entire selection unveiled on June 3

The French Dispatch

brings together a host of stars, including Bill Murray, the director's favorite actor, Tilda Swinton, Timothée Chalamet, Adrien Brody, and on the French side, Léa Seydoux and Mathieu Amalric.

It features a collection of stories taken from the latest issue of an American magazine, published in a fictional French town of the twentieth century.

This is the third film officially in selection, with

Annette

, by French Leos Carax, which will open the festival and bring together Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver, as well as Benedetta by Dutch director Paul Verhoeven, about a lesbian nun in the 17th century, interpreted by Virginie Efira.

The rest of the selection will be unveiled Thursday, June 3, during the traditional press conference, and the festival is to be held from July 6 to 17.
