The suspicion against the alleged DHL extortionist arrested in Brandenburg has been confirmed.

The public prosecutor and the police announced on Thursday in Potsdam with reference to a review of the 35-year-old's statements.

The man had turned himself in on Wednesday and confessed to the deeds.

According to the investigators, an arrest warrant was issued, which was, however, suspended against conditions at the same time.

The suspect is therefore the previously unknown perpetrator who is said to have sent several explosive devices to various addressees in Brandenburg and Berlin between November 2017 and March 2018.

One of his packages was delivered to a pharmacy on December 1, 2017 at the Potsdam Christmas market.

The market had to be cleared during the defusing process, and the case caused a great stir at the time.

Amounts in the millions in Bitcoin

According to investigators, the suspect wanted to blackmail the logistics company DHL for millions in the crypto currency Bitcoin. He presented himself to the police in Brandenburg on Wednesday evening, accompanied by a lawyer. On the same day, among other things, the man's address was searched, the police and prosecutors said. "Objects and documents relevant to evidence" were found, including computer technology.

The public prosecutor's office accused him of attempted blackmail and attempted severe blackmail in ten cases and applied for a corresponding arrest warrant. The Potsdam district court issued this, but according to the investigators, overruled it against “strict requirements”. This was justified with the "personal circumstances of the accused" and the fact that he had submitted himself to the security authorities.
