At Tsukui Yamayurien, a facility for people with intellectual disabilities in Sagamihara City, where 19 people were killed five years ago, new facilities are being developed, and Governor Kuroiwa of Kanagawa Prefecture said in July. It was revealed that a memorial service will be held locally on the 20th.

At Tsukui Yamayurien, a prefectural facility for people with intellectual disabilities in Sagamihara City, 19 men and women who had been admitted five years ago in July 2016 were killed and 26 were seriously injured.

After the incident, most of the facilities that became the site were dismantled, and new facilities are being developed in the original location and in two locations in Yokohama City.

Governor Kuroiwa of Kanagawa Prefecture announced at a press conference on the 26th that a memorial service will be held on July 20th, saying that the facility at the original location is expected to be completed by July.

The memorial service was held every year, but it will be held for the first time in two years because it was canceled last year due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

Also, this is the first time that it will be held locally.

This year, we will limit the number of attendees to about 50, including bereaved families and people involved in the garden, and will take thorough infection prevention measures, such as increasing the space between seats.

The facility is scheduled to be used from August 1st, and the opening ceremony will be held on July 4th, prior to the memorial service.

Governor Kuroiwa said, "I wanted to avoid canceling the incident for the second year in a row so as not to weather the incident. I would like to express my condolences to those who died and share the feeling that such an incident should never happen again." I did.
