A prerequisite for being able to be elected into the Swedish music hall of fame is that the artist or band has made their record debut at least 20 years ago - something that Timbuktu has barely done.

In 2000 came his debut album T2: Counterculture.

Since then, he has become one of the country's most popular rappers and has been awarded eight Grammys.

According to the jury, he has expanded the genre and is working in a direct descending line from the Swedish prog movement.

Satanism

Lisa Nilsson broke through in the 1990s with the album Himlen runt hörnet which sold more than 450,000 copies and made Nilsson one of our most beloved souls.

Nilsson thinks it feels good to be elected.

- Especially this year when you almost feel a little forgotten, she says during the press conference.

The black metal band Bathory was started by Thomas Forsberg, or Quorthon as he called himself.

The name was taken from Elizabeth Bathory, a Hungarian countess who murdered young women to bathe in their blood, and the lyrics were about Satanism.

When Quorthon passed away in 2004, Bathory is represented in the Swedish Music Hall of Fame by an early member: drummer Vans McBurger, or Jonas Åkerlund as he is actually called, and who is now a successful music video director.

- It is of course he who should have all the credit for this fine award, says Åkerlund about Quorthon.

A recognition

“Some poets can take the honor of having put words to the Swedish folk home.

Py Bäckman is one of these. ”

This is the jury's motivation for the election of Bäckman, who wrote the lyrics to songs such as Gabriella's song, The Wanderer and City in Light.

Björn Skifs can of course lean back on the success of the American Billboardette Hooked on A Feeling with Blue Swede from 1974. But he is chosen for his "peculiar ability to step into songs and lyrics, other or his own, in often widely differing voices genres, and make them their most personal creations. ”

According to the Swedish music hall of fame, the purpose of the election is to give recognition to people who laid the foundation for Swedish popular music and thereby inspire innovation and development in music. The jury consists of Lars Nylin, Fredrik Strage, Petra Markgren Wangler, Stefan Wermelin and Tara Moshizi.
