07.12 Madrid launches a self-citation system to get vaccinated

The Community of Madrid launches this Wednesday, May 26, the pilot phase of a self-citation system to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, starting with the general population between 57 and 67 years old.

These people,

born between 1954 and 1964

, will be able to select their appointment to be vaccinated within the authorized agendas of the

Wizink Center

and

Wanda Metropolitano

vaccination centers

.

The agendas of these vaccination points will offer

appointments starting on May 29

and one week ahead, and each day that passes the agenda will open one more day.

The self-appointment can be requested through the Covid-19 Community of Madrid website or through the virtual health card.

7.10 Only 0.01% of vaccinated Americans have been infected with coronavirus

Just 10,200 Americans have been re-infected with COVID-19 of the 101 million who were fully vaccinated at the end of April, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported today.

In the study revealed today, the CDC researchers noted that although the available vaccines are "highly effective", the cases of infections in vaccinated were "predictable" while waiting for the immunization of the population to reach "sufficient levels" to reduce even more transmission.

This number of cases of infections after being vaccinated represents a rate of just 0.01%.

The still tentative CDC report nonetheless acknowledges that the figure is likely higher since it is based on voluntary patient reports and focuses on the most severe cases.

7.05 UK reports first cases of stroke caused by AstraZeneca vaccine

A team of specialists from the United Kingdom has reported the first three cases of people with ischemic strokes caused by clots in the arteries after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine against covid-19.

This stroke, which occurs when blood clots occur in the arteries that supply blood to the brain, is the most common form of stroke, but this is the first time it has been reported in people vaccinated with AstraZeneca serum.

Until now, all the cases of thrombi registered after receiving the Oxford vaccine had appeared in veins (mainly of the brain).

In addition, all had low levels of platelets and antibodies against platelet factor 4 (PF4), a protein that favors the formation of clots.

Information on the three new cases - all reported in young adults - is detailed today in a letter signed by a dozen doctors and researchers and published in the

Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery & Psychiatry

.

In all cases, ischemic stroke was associated with obstruction of the great arteries (both carotid and middle cerebral artery) and two patients also had hepatic and cerebral venous thrombosis.

All three had extremely low platelet levels, confirmed anti-PF4 antibodies, and elevated D-dimer (also related to clotting).

7.00 Sixteen basic health zones in Madrid exceed the threshold set to put restrictions

Sixteen basic health zones (ZBS) of the total of 286 in the Community of Madrid have a cumulative incidence over fourteen days greater than 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the threshold set by the regional government, together with other criteria, to decree restrictions on mobility.

The basic areas with the highest recorded incidence are Rascafría (481.66);

San Pablo City, in Coslada (381.55);

Los Fresnos, in Torrejón de Ardoz (364.1);

and Getafe Norte, in Getafe (355.7), according to the weekly epidemiological map of the Ministry of Health.

The other areas are: Puerta del Ángel (355.71).

Coimbra Park (341), Colmenar Viejo Norte (338.87), Pizarro (333.31), Barajas (331.86), El Soto (327.3), Ángela Uriarte (315), La Princesa (309.31) , San Martín de Valdeiglesias (308), Chopera (306), Valdebernardo (302) and Alameda de Osuna (301.56).

The criteria applied by the General Directorate of Public Health to establish mobility restrictions by basic health areas are: threshold higher than 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in fourteen days, increasing trend and community transmission.

Since this Monday, none of the basic areas of the Community of Madrid has mobility restrictions, something that had not happened since last September, when the limitations that were in force in eleven areas were lifted in which the data of incidence of the pandemic.

On the other hand, 37 municipalities present zero cumulative incidence after fourteen days, such as Patones, La Hiruela, El Atazar or Montejo de la Sierra.
