Under the drizzle, on the morning of the 23rd, some teachers and students of Wuhan No. 4 Middle School came to the campus spontaneously to cherish the memory of outstanding alumni Yuan Longping.

Wuhan is the place where Yuan Longping's dream began.

In 1936, 6-year-old Yuan Longping moved to Wuhan because of his father's transfer to the Ping-Han Railway Bureau.

From 1946 to 1948, Yuan Longping was a high school student at Hankou Boxue Middle School (now Wuhan No. 4 Middle School).

Yuan Longping has stated many times that Wuhan No. 4 Middle School is his most cordial alma mater. “She gave me training and education, which played a decisive role in my growth.”

The relevant person in charge of Wuhan Fourth Middle School recalled that Yuan Longping returned to his alma mater six times to visit.

Since 1995, the "Yuan Longping Scholarship" has been established in his alma mater.

Diligence, simplicity and learning is Yuan Longping's most important quality.

When Yuan Longping returned to his alma mater in April 2009, he proposed to restore the name of the old school, hoping that young people will cultivate a wide range of hobbies and knowledge, and develop a spirit of perseverance.

After approval, Wuhan Fourth Middle School was also listed as "Wuhan Boxue Middle School".

On October 6, 2019, on the 120th anniversary of the founding of Wuhan Fourth Middle School, Yuan Longping wrote an inscription for his alma mater for the last time: Diligent, simple and knowledgeable, personality development, good fortune, and success.

Yuan Longping once shared in his alma mater the story of winning a swimming championship while studying in Wuhan.

"At that time, the school often carried out cultural and sports activities. I benefited a lot from these aspects. I like all kinds of ball sports, especially swimming. It has always been my strong point." Yuan Lao often encouraged the students, "I will achieve something in the future. You must train yourself first!"

Walking on the "Longping Road" of Wuhan No. 4 Middle School, standing in front of Yuan Longping's statue and the school history memorial hall, Yuan Lao's voice and smile are still in sight.

"It's too sudden. We contacted some time ago," said Hu Bin, the principal of Wuhan No. 4 Middle School. "He is an amiable, wise and humorous old man."

"Dream in the shade, the fragrance of rice is filled, you should read Yuan Gong. The harvest festival of Kyushu Land, so Tianlongdao sound and dust..." Hu Xinjie, a third-year student of Wuhan No. 4 Middle School, wrote a poem to express admiration and sorrow.

"Lao Yuan has always cared about the livelihood of the people. He has been working hard to solve the problem of starvation for us Chinese. Every one of us should remember the credit of Yuan Lao." He said.

Zhang Li, vice principal of Wuhan No. 4 Middle School, said that the school has the responsibility and obligation to pass on the spirit of Yuan Lao’s “diligence, simplicity and erudition” and let it shine forever.
