It came close to it.

At 28, Barbara Pravi escapes the victory of the 2021 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with her title

Voilà

.

She has not broken the curse of France which has only failed since the victory of Marie Myriam in 1977 and her mythical

The Bird and the Child

.

Favorite of

bookmakers

, Barbara Pravi's retro, minimalist and realistic style nonetheless conquered the jury and the public with a final score of 499 points.

It is ahead of Ukraine with 364 points, Sweden with 109 points and Israel with 93 points, despite being used to victory.

But this remains insufficient against 524 points from Italy.

In Rotterdam, where the 65th edition of the competition is organized, canceled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the singer is still delighted with her ranking.

On site, the entire French delegation is proud of this result, including the hosts Laurence Boccolini and Stéphane Bern

from the France 2 television channel, which is broadcasting the competition

.

A singer already prepared for the exercise of Eurovision

Born in Paris in 1993 and of Serbian origin, the pen of Barbara Pravi, singer-songwriter and performer, had already left traces in European competition.

She notably co-wrote

Bim Bam Toi

in 2019 for singer Carla, who finished 5th in the junior version of the singing competition.

She does it again in 2020 and co-signs the

J'imagine

title

for the young Frenchwoman Valentina who wins the Eurovision junior.

Two titles with pop sounds for teenagers, perfectly calibrated for the competition, but at the antipodes of his personal style.

After years of wandering, false hopes or stammering, France, a member of the

Big Five

(these founding countries, the biggest funders of the competition who must participate in the final), therefore regains its image.

Italy, for its part, will host the next edition of Eurovision in 2022, if sanitary conditions allow.

Despite the defeat, Barbara Pravi marks with a milestone the history of French song.

The one whose title has been deemed "

outdated

" or "

ridiculous

" by her detractors has just proven that her style is that of a great singer.
