[Explanation] On May 22, a mountain marathon in Gansu encountered extreme weather. As of 8 o'clock on the 23rd, 21 participants were killed.

It is understood that many contestants encountered severe weather such as freezing rain and strong wind when they arrived near the second check-in point, and showed symptoms of loss of temperature.

Why does temperature loss occur during exercise?

Mr. Lu, a cross-country enthusiast, said that in the harsh cold weather encountered in cross-country running, in addition to increasing the clothes to keep warm, it is also important to keep the clothes dry.

Loss of temperature means that the heat taken away from you is greater than the heat generated by you.

In particular, there are several conditions for loss of temperature: the wind can take away your own heat, and the rain can take away your own heat. Especially in the mountains when it is windy and rainy, your clothes are wet and you have not taken it off. Your wet clothes take away the temperature of your body, causing the temperature of your body to drop, and it is easy to cause loss of temperature.

[Explanation] According to Mr. Lu, there are three stages after a person enters a state of hypothermia, and measures should be taken to keep warm immediately after being aware of hypothermia.

The body is trembling, and it is more difficult to speak. This is the first stage.

The second stage (body) is more rigid.

The third stage is equivalent to having lost the ability to move, and has no consciousness. In the first stage, you should be able to feel it, shivering and very cold. The first step is to take off all the wet clothes on your body.

The second step is to keep the key parts warm, for example, your chest, your armpits, and you can stick a warm baby or anything.

Third, put on warm clothes quickly, don't let him move, and quickly wrap it up.

[Commentary] Mr. Lu said that heatstroke and loss of temperature are scenarios that extreme sportsmen pay attention to. This time, the general lack of equipment is related to sudden changes in weather and high altitude.

The day before yesterday (May 21), the temperature was extremely high. He ignored that it was at a high altitude. It was above 2000 (altitude), so the weather changes at any time. You see CP2 (the second check-in point). It's raining.

Because the temperature change in May is very fast, especially in the mountainous area, you may not feel it in our plain. I ran Wumeng Mountain (2021 Wumeng Mountain Cross-country Race) in Yunnan, and it snowed heavily in the first two days. Unexpectedly, it snowed heavily in the mountains, but it was 30 degrees the next day.

We started the race on May Day. The next day was exposed to high temperatures and a lot of heat stroke. All 20 people had to retire. We waited for heavy rain and strong winds on the third day.

[Explanation] For cross-country enthusiasts, or people who are interested in trying, how to prepare for this sport, Mr. Lu gives his suggestions.

First, I want to be in awe of nature.

Awe of nature, cherish life, and go home safely, this is the slogan of our off-road circle.

Whether running cross-country or running a marathon, it is all extreme sports, so you must be prepared before running.

You have to have a certain training basis yourself, and you have to have a certain basic knowledge of outdoor survival, and that should not be a big problem.
