It is the big day for the owners of cafes and restaurants who can welcome their customers again since this morning.

Despite the capricious weather, many Rennes residents enjoy a coffee or an aperitif on the terrace.

Covered or not, the latter have flourished in recent days all over the city.

The city, which has decided to give them more space in public space as a boost to the reopening, has thus accepted “120 requests for extension or creation,” she said in a press release.

Thanks to this device, already implemented this summer, traders will be able to extend their terraces free of charge until October 31.

They will still have to comply with a charter, drawn up with the Union of Hospitality Trades and Industries (Umih), in order to respect in particular the rules of physical distancing and to ensure the aesthetic quality of the furniture.

Eight downtown streets returned to pedestrians this summer

From June 11, two days after the third stage of deconfinement, several streets in the city center will also be returned to pedestrians on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. until June 26 then from 7 p.m. to midnight. August 30 until August 29.

Eight streets will be affected by this municipal decree prohibiting traffic and parking with the streets of Parcheminerie, Vasselot, Saint-Melaine, Nantaise, Baudrerie, Penhoët, Montfort and Saint-Malo.

"These times may change depending on health restrictions and in particular the times of a possible curfew", warns the city all the same.
