• This Wednesday is (finally) the reopening of the terraces and the opportunity to eat and drink outside.

  • But with an incidence of 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the coronavirus is still present in France and an epidemic rebound remains possible.

  • How to succeed in having a drink on the terrace while taking as little risk as possible?

This Wednesday, May 19 marks the first stage of deconfinement.

Long-awaited event, the terraces reopen and it is again possible to have a drink or a meal in your favorite café, restaurant or bar.

Professor Arnaud Fontanet, epidemiologist and member of the Scientific Council, warned on LCI: "If we want to have a good summer and see this curve of the number of cases of the coronavirus continue to fall, we must make an effort", calling for prudence on this day of reopening.

So how do you combine the pleasure of a drink outside and the lower risk of contamination and epidemic rebound?

20 Minutes

gives you some practical advice.

Choose a terrace ventilated as much as possible

Ventilation remains the main factor when not wearing a mask.

The Institut Pasteur estimates that only 5% the number of contamination outdoors, against 80% in closed places and 15% in indoor but ventilated spaces.

However, not all terraces are open in the same way.

We must avoid heated terraces with a roof and fences, or terraces that have had the false good idea of installing partitions between each table, which ultimately ventilates them poorly.

“To find out if a terrace is safe in terms of ventilation, you can observe cigarette smoke.

If it wears off straight away, that's good.

If it remains in the air, it is because the place is poorly ventilated ”, indicates Michaël Rochoy, general practitioner and epidemiology researcher.

Don't speak too loudly

Speaking loudly - or worse, singing - increases the amount of particles emitted, as well as the number of droplets projected, and de facto the risk of transmission of Covid.

It is therefore necessary to avoid too noisy terraces, which put on too loud music, especially since for obvious reasons, getting closer to your neighbor to talk to him without shouting is not really the best solution to avoid transmissions.

“Obviously, the best solution is to speak with your mask and take it off only to eat and drink.

But if we want to avoid this constraint, it is better to find a quiet terrace and not to speak loudly, ”says Michaël Rochoy.

will be waiting.

Avoid crowded terraces as much as possible

For the two reasons mentioned above, and because there is no zero risk of transmission outdoors, it is better to avoid overcrowded terraces.

Especially since the more people there are around, the more the probability that there are people positive for the coronavirus increases.

“You have to avoid places that are too dense, bars that do not respect the distance from tables, crowds.

There, even outdoors, the risk increases considerably, ”says Michaël Rochoy.

Don't see too many people

First, you don't have to be six per table (and yes!). Second, absolutely avoid being over. That is to say, the "fraud" of reserving several tables via a huge group of friends and then swapping places and tables to talk to everyone is clearly not to be done for epidemic reasons. Another trickster technique to avoid is having several bars with several different groups of friends. Tonight, see up to five people, no more.

“In absolute terms, we must avoid seeing too many people and keep a small social circle.

Once again, the more people we see, the more we take the risk of contaminating ourselves, but also of contaminating if we are positive, ”recalls Michaël Rochoy.

The national incidence rate, at 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, is high.

But it is even more so in certain regions.

With a rate of 230 in Paris for example, “the risk of meeting a positive person is very high.

We must therefore limit contacts, ”points out the doctor.

Wear a mask indoors

As soon as you go inside (especially to the toilet), it is essential to wear a mask, because the risk of infection increases considerably in an enclosed area.

Avoid being too tactile

You missed your loved ones and that's normal, but for the moment, you should avoid touching emotional outbursts, hugs or even getting too close to them.

Obvious rule too, but we remind you in case, even if your glass is delicious, you avoid having your neighbor taste it.

He had only to choose better.

We also refrain from clinking glasses by knocking the glasses together.

Because if you missed the aperitif, it is probably also the case for the coronavirus, which will not hesitate to be there.
