The first semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest was watched by 2.78 million people in the Netherlands on Tuesday evening.

This made it the most watched program of the day.

The show in Rotterdam Ahoy attracted significantly more viewers than usual for a semi-final in which the Netherlands does not participate.

In 2019, 1.5 million people watched the semi-finals without the Netherlands.

The broadcast in which Duncan Laurence qualified for the final has been watched by about three million people.

Viewers saw on Tuesday that the participants from Belgium, Ukraine, Malta and Russia have secured a place for the final, which will take place next Saturday.

The show was hosted by Chantal Janzen, Nikkie de Jager, Jan Smit and Edsilia Rombley.

The preview already attracted nearly two million people to NPO1.

The second semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled for Thursday.

The participants on behalf of Greece, represented by Stefania from Utrecht, San Marino and Switzerland will perform and hope for a place in the final battle.

It was announced on Tuesday that the Icelandic participant will not perform live, because a band member has tested positive for the corona virus.

Instead, a video of the rehearsals is broadcast.
