Postal workers demonstrated across France to defend their jobs, working conditions and their wages.

"Nearly a hundred pickets and / or demonstrations took place throughout the territory, which testifies to a real dynamic", welcomes in a press release the CGT-FAPT federation on the initiative of the call to strike, with SUD-PTT.

Several hundred activists notably gathered in Ile-de-France around the group's headquarters.

"It is a warning shot for La Poste, which does not hear the expectations and needs of staff, nor those of users, elected officials, constantly promoting division by all means", still believes the federation .

The management reported around 6 p.m. a national strike rate of 7.02%.

"There is a real annoyance, a real anger"

In the Paris region, the police counted around 400 people gathered in the morning around the headquarters of La Poste in Paris and Issy-les-Moulineaux.

"There are quite a few disparities, but it is a historic day in terms of the number of gatherings", reacted Gaël Quirante, one of the SUD-PTT organizers of the Paris demonstration.

"For the moment, we have counted for our part at least 60 gatherings".

“In Paris, Nantes, Marseille, Bordeaux and Caen, this represents 3,000 people.

There is real annoyance, real anger.

The debate is: is this today the starting point for a national mobilization in all trades at the Post Office?

", he added.

"In Bordeaux, the local inter-union (SUD-PTT and CGT-FAPT) has therefore proposed that all the local inter-unions discuss a strike of all trades in the group on June 10," he added.

Unions fear accelerated post office cuts

For several months, tensions have been increasing and many departments (mail, network, financial centers, etc.) have challenged their management's strategic plan and the reorganization of the group.

The unions assure that this plan will accelerate the elimination of post offices or reinforce the precariousness with transfers of activities to subcontractors or to subsidiaries.

The Covid-19 pandemic had a negative impact of 2.3 billion euros on La Poste, according to management.

But this was more than offset by the recognition of CNP Assurances shares, of which the group took control on March 4 and which contributed 3.6 billion euros to net income.

For 2020, La Poste posted a net profit of 2.1 billion euros, against 822 million in 2019.
