It was found that 114 doses of the new coronavirus vaccine stored at a medical institution in Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture, became unusable due to a mistake in temperature control of the refrigerator and was discarded.

According to Goto City, on the morning of the 17th, a staff member who went to work at a medical institution in the city checked the status of the new coronavirus vaccine stored in the refrigerator and noticed that the inside of the refrigerator was at room temperature.

This vaccine is for a total of 114 doses of 19 Pfizer vaccine containers that were planned to be given to residents of the elderly facility.

After thawing the vaccine, it had to be stored at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, but the doctor decided that it could not be used because it was stored at room temperature, and all of it was discarded.

The medical institution kept the vaccine that arrived from Goto City Hall on the 14th of this month, but at that time there was no abnormality in the refrigerator, and the city thinks that the refrigerator may have failed for some reason.

On the 18th, the city sent a document requesting proper temperature control to medical institutions in the city, calling for prevention of recurrence.

According to the Goto City National Health Insurance Policy Division, "Since we have a sufficient amount of vaccine, disposal will not have a significant impact on the vaccination plan immediately."
