The CEO of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, rock and roll pantheon, museum and archive, and which pays homage to outstanding artists every year, has responded to criticism.

Indeed, while we find Jay-Z on the list this year, Iron Maiden, who was among the nominees in February, was not selected.

The same goes for Rage Against The Machine, which was also named to the 2021 charts. The move drew criticism over the lack of heavy metal bands at the ceremony.

Speaking to WBAB radio station, Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame CEO Greg Harris said, “There is no doubt that Iron Maiden is an influential band.

That's why he was nominated this year along with 15 other artists and groups.

When it came time to vote, they were not among the top six.

So we don't ask ourselves if this is an important group, if it has an impact and an influence.

"

"Broaden your conception of rock and roll"

Trying to calm the anger of fans, Greg Harris added that "of those who have been nominated throughout history, over 80% have ultimately been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame." Nevertheless, he defends the relevance of the votes. “Everyone has their favorites, everyone has different artists who have influenced them, who have themselves influenced other artists. So if you look at this list, you can make the same arguments that were made for Iron Maiden for all the other artists, ”he said.

Asked about critics who have suggested that the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame should be called the Music Hall Of Fame, because of its openness to a wide variety of music, Greg Harris believes it is time for everyone to broaden its conception of rock and roll ”. “Rock and roll was never limited to four skinny guys with long hair and guitars. It has always been diverse… For us, it's just variations of rock and roll. And I think that behind the scenes, we often come to the question of hip-hop because some people are not fans of it (…) It's an attitude, it's a spirit, and that's the rock and roll, ”he added.

This isn't the first time Jay-Z has provoked the anger or misunderstanding of rock fans.

His stint at the Glastonbury Festival in 2008 had baffled, including Noel Gallagher, who said he had nothing to do there.

Beyoncé's husband responded to the criticism by arriving on stage by singing
