China News Service, Beijing, May 17 (Reporter Chen Su) The reporter learned from the Ministry of Water Resources of China on the 17th that severe convective weather will continue to occur frequently in China in the next half month.

On the same day, the Ministry of Water Resources deployed flood and drought disaster prevention work, and sent two working groups to Hubei and Yunnan to assist in flood control and drought relief.

Since the beginning of this year, China's strong convective weather has many spots, wide areas and strong destructiveness.

According to forecasts by the Meteorological Department, in the second half of May, strong convective weather such as short-term heavy rainfall, local thunderstorms, strong winds or hail will still occur frequently, and the distribution area is wide, and the flood control situation is severe.

The China Meteorological Administration predicted on the 17th that in the coming week, there will be continuous rainfall and strong local convection in southern China. Among them, the cumulative rainfall in the north-central Jiangnan, southeastern Guizhou, and parts of northwestern Guangxi will be 120 to 180 mm. Above 250 mm, the rainfall in most of the above-mentioned areas is 40% to 80% higher than that in the same period of normal year, and the local rainfall is more than doubled.

On the 17th, the Ministry of Water Resources held a business meeting to analyze and judge rain, water, flood and drought conditions, and proposed to maintain a high degree of vigilance and alertness, strengthen monitoring, forecasting and early warning, and release early warning information in a timely manner; strengthen the scientific dispatch and application of large and medium-sized reservoirs, and strengthen the limit water level of floods In addition to dispatching and applying supervision, we will give full play to the role of flood blocking and peak and peak staggering. Dangerous reservoirs must reduce the water level or even run empty to ensure safe flooding. We must attach great importance to the prevention of mountain flood disasters, and keep an eye on the key defense areas of mountain floods and the overlapping areas of heavy rainfall. Early warning information is issued in a timely manner, and local governments are requested to organize the transfer of people and the management and control of dangerous areas to ensure the safety of people’s lives.

Experts reminded that there will be continuous rainfall in southern China in the coming week, with heavy accumulated rainfall in some areas, accompanied by strong convective weather such as short-term heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hail. The public should guard against the disadvantages of local heavy rainfall and continuous rainfall to traffic travel. Keep away from areas with higher risks of meteorological disasters, and avoid going out during periods of strong convection.
