Paid walls and subscription services in the podcast industry have become increasingly common.

But how the new payment models work varies.

Simon Chippen Svensson was one of those who paid early for his podcast.

According to him, the payment wall is necessary for the development of the format.

- Behind the pay wall you feel a little freer and it can be even more personality, edge or raw, because it feels like this is only for our secret club, says Simon Chippen Svensson from the production company Under production

Johan Strömberg, founder and CEO of the Netflix-inspired podcast platform PodMe, also believes in the pay wall's place in the podcast industry.

- It is always a challenge to get creators to put their content behind a payment wall because it is still quite new.

But as these investments are made, I think it will become more natural in the future, he says.

Harder for new podcasts to establish themselves

Simon Chippen Svensson is unsure whether the entry of subscription services will change the podcast industry.

He believes that it is becoming increasingly difficult for new podcasts to establish themselves.

- A problem in the podcast market is that it is difficult for new names and even well-known names to create new podcasts and get listeners.

It feels like there is an old dinosaur park.

In fact, the podcast industry also needs new podcasts to be big.
