- I wanted to make a revenge film, a film about anger and disappointment from a female perspective.

We often see that kind of movies but I had never seen one that felt completely authentic.

So I wanted to test if I could both eat the cake and keep it, says Emerald Fennel with a laugh.

Emerald Fennel is perhaps best known to many for having played Camilla Parker Bowles in The Crown.

She was also one of the producers behind the acclaimed series Killing Eve.

Promising young woman is her directorial debut and first feature film.

The inspiration comes from her own upbringing in England.

- I have thought a lot about the culture I grew up in where things like this were completely normal, it could be like the end of a joke!

Recorded in 23 days

The lead role is played by Carey Mulligan, who was both Oscar nominated and Golden Globe nominated for her role.

The role is tough, but when Carey Mulligan has portrayed the character, she has started from warmth and friendship.

- She loves her loved ones so much that she can not stand the thought of someone hurting them without being held accountable.

Everyone around wants her to move on with her life.

But she wants to keep fighting until justice is done, says Carey Mulligan.

The film was shot in just 23 days and for Emerald Fennel it was a real challenge because she was also very pregnant.

- We knew that if we released a scene, we would never get another chance.

It was both exciting and difficult.

But at the same time, it was extremely satisfying, says Emerald Fennel and smiles.

The film Promising Young Woman premieres on May 21.
