"Over the past day, May 16, 128 forest fires were liquidated in Russia on an area of 16,591 hectares," RIA Novosti quoted a message as saying.
It is noted that by midnight on May 17, 81 forest fires were operating in Russia on an area of 19,530 hectares.
The maximum area of fires was recorded in the Tyumen region, where 19 wildfires were active on 18,031 hectares.
Earlier it was reported that in the Novosibirsk region, military pilots conducted exercises to extinguish forest fires.
