A tea ceremony was held at Kamigamo Shrine to celebrate the end of Aoi Matsuri, one of the three major festivals in Kyoto.

At the tea ceremony held after the Aoi Matsuri at Kamigamo Shrine in Kita-ku, Kyoto, the Urasenke and Omotesenke, the heads of the tea ceremony, take turns making tea every year and dedicating it to the shrine.

Continuing from last year, the Aoi Matsuri on the 15th was held on a smaller scale, such as by canceling the procession of specialties due to the influence of the new corona, and the tea ceremony was held only for Shinto rituals, following last year.

First, after the priest gave a congratulatory speech, Sen no Sōtan, a master of the Omotesenke family, made dark and light tea using matcha at the tea ceremony in front of the main shrine.

After that, the tea was handed over to the priest with an umbrella and dedicated to the main shrine in a solemn atmosphere where gagaku was performed.

"It was raining today, but I was able to dedicate it with a quiet feeling," said Sen no Sōtan, a master of the Omotesenke family.
