An Australian woman woke up from surgery to find herself speaking Irish accent instead of her Australian accent, as reported by the British newspaper "Daily Mail".

The newspaper added that "Angie Yen" woke up from the effect of anesthesia after undergoing tonsil surgery, to find that she spoke with an Irish accent even though she had never been to Ireland.

Angie shared a video clip on TikTok, two days after she underwent throat surgery, in which she said, "I woke up with an Irish accent the day before and thought that I would wake up from this strange dream, but it did not happen, and my Australian accent disappeared."

Doctors explained this case that the patient suffers from foreign accent syndrome, a condition that usually results from a brain injury that causes the sufferers to lose their natural accent, as only 100 cases have been recorded since the discovery of this syndrome in 1907.

"I woke up this morning and was speaking in the Australian accent, and I called one of my friends and confirmed that my Australian accent had returned, but during the phone call, within five to 10 minutes, I saw my accent deteriorating and returning to Irish again," the Daily Mail said, quoting Angie. "On the second day, I did not know what to do, this is a completely different thing. I am very scared ... I thought it would disappear when I woke up this morning, but it did not happen."

The next day, Angie said that "there is no longer any trace of her Australian accent, and that she has become completely Irish," and posted another video on her TikTok account, nine days after noticing the Irish accent for the first time, saying she was still upset. Extremely.
