• Not all restaurants are affected by the reopening of the terraces.

Many of them do not benefit from outdoor space.

  • To allow nonetheless a recovery in these places, the city of Nice proposes to have an exceptional authorization of occupation of the public domain after a study of the cases.

  • Despite this possibility, some restaurateurs have preferred to stay closed when others regret not having more space.

Olivier Véran confirmed this at the start of the week: next Wednesday, and after more than seven months of closure, the terraces of cafes, bars and restaurants will be able to reopen but at 50% of their capacity and with tables of six people. maximum seats.

Not all establishments have a "real" terrace, so some have decided to set up a few tables in front of their establishment, asking for authorization to occupy the public domain in their municipality.

Others, on the other hand, have chosen to wait until June 9, when the reception in theaters will, in theory, be authorized.

In Nice, this is the case with Pure & V. Its owner, Vanessa Massé could have "built a terrace but prefers to wait".

“This is not the spirit of the restaurant.

In my opinion, it is better to eat inside in a starred restaurant.

In addition, the district does not really lend itself to such an arrangement.

And as I'm all alone in the gym, I like to have a full vision of the space ”.

"Finally, it suits me that it reopens later"

For the 30-year-old manager, a reopening in June also allows her to "finalize the renovation of the restaurant, set up the new team and finish testing the menus". She also takes advantage of this period to develop her other consulting and trading activity. "I put together the wine lists of the other restaurants, so at the moment, I am particularly involved in reopening those who have a real terrace before being able to open in my turn". A moment that she impatiently awaits. “We have been taking reservations for a few days and it's already almost full for the first week! "

On the other side of the city, near the port, Ivan Pasquariello and Monica Liberti, the owners of the pizzeria "Les Amoureux" are also impatient.

They will take advantage of the authorization of the town hall to install a few tables on the sidewalk next week.

“It can't be much considering the place we have,” says the co-manager.

We are participating in this deconfinement stage but it is more for morale than for money ”.

The restaurateurs could have benefited from compensation from the town hall.

Indeed, the municipality is currently considering a way not to create "a feeling of injustice in relation to those who benefit from a better geographical location and who are exempt from the fee for terrace rights," said the municipality in presentation of the measures put in place for May 19.

"The small terrace is above all for contact with customers"

The restaurant "Les Amoureux", which only serves in the evening, has an initial capacity of 38 seats indoors.

“We are a small structure so we will have a terrace but it will always be ridiculous with the necessary distance to set up tables.

By opening on May 19, we know that it is not to eat on the terrace that people will come but because they know our products.

We focus on quality.

Because everyone will be rushing to places where it is possible to settle outside.

So many people who will not order or who will not come and get a pizza to take away… ”

Ivan Pasquariello sums up: “What we want above all is to re-establish contact with customers.

It is also mentally necessary to have a return to normal life.

This is the first step ”.

In the meantime, everything is already ready for the “real reopening in June”.

The plexiglass, the purifier, a new decoration and above all, new recipes, in particular “smoked ricotta pizzas”.

They are waiting for you!
