The long-awaited reunion of the "Friends" is imminent: As the streaming service HBO Max announced on Thursday, the one-off special episode of the former US cult series, which has been postponed due to the pandemic, will be streamed from May 27th.

The party will also include several prominent fans of the series, including Justin Bieber, David Beckham, Lady Gaga or the supermodels Cindy Crawford and Cara Delevigne.

"Friends" was shot from 1994 to 2004 and has received numerous awards.

The stars of the sitcom - Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer - had agreed to step back in front of the camera for a one-time reunion of the characters.

"Friends: The Reunion" was filmed in the original studio at Warner Bros Studios in Los Angeles.

A virtual reunion was never an option, said the producers.

A short trailer shows the six friends slowly walking away from the camera arm in arm.

Tom Selleck, who appeared in ten episodes as a crush for Monica (Cox), is also making the comeback.

Reese Witherspoon, who starred in the series as Rachel's sister (Aniston), will also be there.

Friends producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane also returned for the special.

The series remains very popular, even with viewers too young to remember the original broadcast.

WarnerMedia, the company behind HBO Max, had hoped to broadcast the special in time for the launch of its streaming platform last May.

However, the corona pandemic brought production to a standstill. The episode will now be shown exactly one year later than planned. The main cast earn $ 2.5 million each for the performance, according to industry insiders.
