Hilma af Klint (1862–1944) was a Swedish artist and pioneer in abstract painting who only became recognized and noticed after her death.

She joined anthroposophy and wanted with her art to depict the structure of everything beyond the physical world.

One of her central works is the Suite Paintings for Temples, created between 1906 and 1915.

Now her life will be a film directed by Lasse Hallström.

- I share Hilma's fascination with the spiritual and I felt a strong desire to tell her story.

I'm sure I had some spiritual guidance that helped me find the story and write the script for it.

It was meant for my wife Lena Olin to play the older Hilma and for our daughter Tora to play the younger Hilma, says Lasse Hallström in a press release.

In recent years, Hilma af Klint's life and art have inspired fashion collections, been portrayed in the documentary Hilma - beyond the invisible and given rise to an opera.

Her art has been exhibited at the Guggenheim in New York and the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm and Malmö.

- When I will now portray Hilma's life on film, I want to show how she took the help of the spiritual in her work and where she found her inspiration.

My ambition is for the audience to experience Hilma's different struggles with all her senses, says Lasse Hallström.

Lasse Hallström broke through with My Life as a Dog in 1985. He has since followed up with several acclaimed Hollywood films, including The Cider House Rules and Gilbert Grape.

For both, he was nominated in the Oscar category Best Director.

He has been married since 1994 to Lena Olin who plays the older Hilma in the upcoming film together with their joint daughter who makes the younger version of the artist.

Olin acted in many of Ingmar Bergman's productions at Dramaten during the 80's and broke through internationally in Philip Kaufmans Varat's unbearable ease in 1988.

The couple has been living in the United States since the 90s.

Tora Hallström works in the financial industry but has previously appeared in some films that Lasse Hallström has directed.

The film is scheduled to premiere on the streaming service Viaplay 2022.
