In recent days, the circulation of the virus has slowed sharply, while less than 5,000 patients are currently in intensive care.

This drop in indicators and the acceleration of vaccination may give hope for a more favorable summer ... Provided that the French respect the measures and barrier gestures.

DECRYPTION

Less than ten days before the scheduled reopening of shops, terraces and places of culture, the health situation is gradually improving in France.

If the Covid-19 epidemic remains active, the circulation of the virus is finally slowing down.

With fewer cases, but also fewer patients in the hospital, all the curves are turning.

What to hope for a quiet summer?

Yes, as long as you remember that this improvement is conditional on proper respect for barrier gestures.

Coronavirus: follow the evolution of the situation Monday, May 10

For three weeks, the indicators have plummeted, with -22% contamination each week.

We are currently less than 20,000 cases per day on average.

The incidence rate is 192, and this is the first time since mid-February that France has fallen below the 200 mark.

Less than 5,000 patients in intensive care

This decrease also means that the measures taken at the end of March have worked.

And on the side of hospitalizations, the figures are also falling and the number of people in intensive care also follows this downward trend.

In total, fewer than 5,000 covid patients are currently in intensive care, almost 700 fewer in a week.

5,000 cases a day on June 15?

France is therefore on the right track, and according to the projections of the Institut Pasteur, if we continue on this same slope, we would be at 10,000 cases per day on May 25 and 5,000 on June 15, an acceptable threshold to go back up. effectively chains of contamination.

And with 5,000 contaminations per day and 50% of the population vaccinated in early July, we would be much quieter this summer.

But these reassuring projections are conditioned on a measured and supervised reopening.

The situation will continue to improve if the French respect the separation measures and continue to apply the barrier gestures.

On the other hand, if hundreds of people flock to the terraces without respecting anything, the summer could be less bright than hoped.
