The number of Covid-19 patients identified in the intensive care unit continues to decline on Sunday, falling below the 5,000 mark, while the positivity rate also declines to 5.8% against 6.2% the day before, according to the reports. Public Health France figures published this Sunday.

In the past 24 hours, 116 people have died from the coronavirus in hospital, against 176 the day before and 227 on Friday, bringing the total number of Covid deaths to 106,421.

Critical care services (which bring together resuscitation, intensive care and continuous monitoring) numbered 4,971 people this Sunday, against 5,005 Saturday and 5,106 Friday.

This indicator, monitored very closely by the health authorities, is slowly moving away from the bar of 6,000 patients exceeded on April 26 and the alarming peak of the first wave of spring 2020 (about 7,000 patients).

Declining positivity rate and hospital admissions

In 24 hours, 129 new patients with severe forms of Covid were admitted to intensive care units.

They were 191 the day before and 269 on Friday.

Over the last seven days, 1,865 people have been admitted to critical care units, including 1,246 in intensive care.

9,128 new cases of contamination have been confirmed (compare with Saturday's 20,745), but this is partially linked to the fact that all the statistics are not available on a Sunday evening.

The positivity rate over the last seven days consolidated on D-3, which measures the proportion of positive cases compared to the number of people tested, continues its encouraging decline to 5.8% against 6.2% on Saturday.

The decrease is also observed for all hospitalizations, with a total of Covid patients amounting to 25,797, slightly less than the day before (25,800) and much better than Friday (26,331).

That of hospital admissions over the last 24 hours is much clearer: 527 patients, against 844 on Saturday and 1,140 on Friday.

In total over seven days, 8,062 new hospitalizations were recorded.

Since the start of the vaccination campaign, 17,814,854 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 26.6% of the total population and 33.9% of the adult population) and 7,765,912 people have received two injections (i.e. 11.6% of the total population and 14.8% of the adult population), according to the General Directorate of Health (DGS).
