The health authorities in Germany

reported

6922 new corona infections to

the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day

.

This is evident from the numbers from Monday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5:15 a.m.

For comparison: a week ago the value was 9,160 new infections.

On Mondays, the number of cases reported by the RKI is usually lower, among other things because fewer tests are carried out on the weekend.

According to the RKI, the

number of

new infections per 100,000 inhabitants reported within seven days

was

119.1

nationwide on Monday morning

(previous day: 118.6; previous week: 146.9).

According to the information,

54 new deaths were

recorded across

Germany within 24 hours

.

A week ago there were 84 dead.

The RKI has counted a total of 3,527,251 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, however, since many infections are not recognized.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at around 3,175,600.

The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 84,829.

According to the RKI situation report on Sunday afternoon, the

nationwide

seven-day R-value

was

0.90

(previous day: 0.91).

This means that 100 infected people infect 90 more people.

The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides;

if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.

Coronavirus in Europe

The state of emergency in

Spain

declared to contain the corona pandemic came

to an end after six and a half months.

Most of the sometimes very strict restrictions on public life expired in the former infection hotspot of the EU at midnight on Saturday.

This included, for example, the cordoning off of numerous regions in which it was previously forbidden to enter or leave the country without a valid reason.

The residents of the capital Madrid, for example, have been able to go to the sea in Andalusia, Valencia or Catalonia since Sunday.

The corona infection

situation

in

Italy continues to

improve.

In the weekly Corona status report on Friday, the experts from the Ministry of Health spoke of a further slowly falling infection curve.

Accordingly, the currently calculated 7-day incidence value up to and including Thursday was an average of 123 cases per 100,000 inhabitants after 148 in the previous week.

Coronavirus worldwide

For the first time since March 2020, there are

fewer than 1,000 active corona cases

in

Israel,

according to the Minister of Health.

At the height of the pandemic there were more than 70,000, Minister Juli Edelstein announced on Twitter on Sunday.

For a week, the number of seriously ill has also been less than 100. At the end of January there were around 1200 seriously ill Covid patients in Israel.

The

rapid increase in the corona numbers continues in

India

. The Ministry of Health reported more than 400,000 new infections on Sunday for the fourth consecutive day and over 4,000 deaths related to the virus on the second consecutive day. The number of confirmed infections rose within 24 hours by 403,738 to 22.3 million. This is the second highest value worldwide after the USA. However, experts fear a much higher number of unreported cases. The number of deaths related to the virus increased by 4,092 to 242,362. It was only on Friday that India recorded a global high with more than 414,000 new infections and on Saturday with 4187 deaths, more than ever reported.

The

first cases of the new coronavirus variant from India have occurred

in

South Africa

. As confirmed by the Ministry of Health, a total of four people have contracted the new mutant. The infected had previously been traveling in India.

The

World Health Organization (WHO)

warned of the risk of further devastating corona outbreaks along the lines of India.

In several other countries, the right precautions were lacking, said WHO emergency aid coordinator Mike Ryan on Friday in Geneva.

"This virus has tremendous kinetic energy," said Ryan.

"It has massive infectious power, and we have to slow the spread." In some countries, the situation is already developing in a similar way to India, said Ryan, without giving a name.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus later mentioned the tense situation in Brazil and Nepal.

Other countries could soon find themselves in a similar emergency.

The vaccinations alone are not yet the sufficient answer, said Ryan, referring to the far too small production and the uneven distribution of vaccines in the world.

According to the CDC,

around 33 percent of Americans have

already been vaccinated twice. The CDC announced that almost 111 million people received a second dose of a vaccine. A good 150 million people have been vaccinated once.
