The health authorities in Germany
reported
12,656 new corona infections to
the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day
.
This is evident from the numbers from Sunday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5:37 a.m.
For comparison: a week ago the value was 16,290.
On Sunday, the number of cases reported by the RKI is usually lower, among other things because fewer tests are carried out on the weekend.

After Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, Hamburg, Brandenburg, Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Rhineland-Palatinate and Bremen also fell below this threshold, below which opening steps are possible in districts and cities with correspondingly lower numbers, above which contact restrictions must be tightened.

With a value of 50.0, Schleswig-Holstein again has the lowest incidence.
However, the regional differences remain large.
With an incidence of 180, Thuringia is still the federal state with the highest value, followed by Saxony with 172.8.

This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 91 more people.
The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.
If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides;
if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.

Spain

rapid increase in the corona numbers continues in
India
. The Ministry of Health reported more than 400,000 new infections on Sunday for the fourth consecutive day and over 4,000 deaths related to the virus on the second consecutive day. The number of confirmed infections rose within 24 hours by 403,738 to 22.3 million. This is the second highest value worldwide after the USA. However, experts fear a much higher number of unreported cases. The number of deaths related to the virus increased by 4,092 to 242,362. It was only on Friday that India recorded a global high with more than 414,000 new infections and on Saturday with 4187 deaths, more than ever reported.
The
first cases of the new coronavirus variant from India have occurred
in
South Africa
. As confirmed by the Ministry of Health, a total of four people have contracted the new mutant. The infected had previously been traveling in India.
The
World Health Organization (WHO)
warned of the risk of further devastating corona outbreaks along the lines of India.
In several other countries, the right precautions were lacking, said WHO emergency aid coordinator Mike Ryan in Geneva on Friday.
"This virus has tremendous kinetic energy," said Ryan.
"It has massive infectious power, and we have to slow the spread." In some countries, the situation is already developing in a similar way to India, said Ryan, without giving a name.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus later mentioned the tense situation in Brazil and Nepal.
Other countries could soon find themselves in a similar emergency.
The vaccinations alone are not yet the sufficient answer, said Ryan, referring to the far too small production and the uneven distribution of vaccines in the world.
According to the CDC,
around 33 percent of Americans have
already been vaccinated twice. The CDC announced that almost 111 million people received a second dose of a vaccine. A good 150 million people have been vaccinated once.
