Björn Ulvaeus has been interviewed by Australian News Corp, which among other things runs the Melbourne tabloid The Herald Sun.

According to the article, the four Abba members - Björn Ulvaeus, Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad - have met regularly in Stockholm to discuss the future.

Whether this is a regular comeback or not is a matter of definition.

It is about a television program, the hologram-based show "Abbatar", premiered in London and the first new music from the band since 1981.

- We are really great-great friends.

That the four of us are in the studio for the first time in 40 years, it's something with the knowledge of what we've been through.

It is difficult to describe, but there are very strong ties between us, Ulvaeus tells News Corp.

Abba releases new music - after 35 years

The show can tour

A few years ago, Abbas' manager Görel Hanser confirmed that there would be two new songs with the titles "I still have faith in you" and "Don't shut me down" in connection with "Abbatar".

In the show, virtual versions of the artists will appear - because parts of Abba have said they never want to tour again.

The show can become a global story.

- We start in London, then we'll see.

We do not know yet, says Ulvaeus.

According to the News Corp article, the project has been delayed as a result of the pandemic - and it is now at least five new songs, which will be released this year.

If it becomes a brand new album, Ulvaeus says he is prevented from answering.

But that it will be new music already this year is clear, according to him.

- It's not about whether it will happen, it will happen, says the 76-year-old.

Australia and Abba have a close relationship.

Abba made an acclaimed tour of the country early in his career in 1977. Two years before that, in 1975, the country had been a driving force in the Abba phenomenon gaining momentum, something that Ulvaeus describes as the rescue of the band.
