The government hopes to achieve "by the end of the month," said the entourage of the Secretary of State to AFP, adding that these lists would be updated according to the evolution of the epidemic in the territories concerned.

A similar system put in place by the United Kingdom

“Regarding the countries which are outside the European area, (…) there are certain countries, as we can see, where the variants are still very active, (…) and therefore we will work on lists and colors . There will be the green countries, the orange countries, the red countries ”, explained the Secretary of State in charge of Tourism on Europe 1.“ We are working on these lists within the government and also with our European colleagues ”, a- he added.

The UK has also planned a similar traffic light system to classify countries, including whether or not Brits are exempt from quarantine upon their return.

Currently, the European Union has defined a list of third countries whose travelers can be admitted to its territory, whether or not they are vaccinated against Covid.

It contains seven countries: Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.

However, the authorities of the EU Member States remain responsible for lifting travel restrictions on the countries on the list.

For travel between EU countries, the European Commission is preparing the establishment of a European health certificate, which it wants operational before the end of June.
