The party-independent association Forum for Club Culture & Nightlife has for almost a year run the campaign to get Berlin's nightclubs culturally recognized.

A proposal will be presented to the German government that Berlin's nightclubs should in future be referred to as cultural institutions.

This after a unanimous parliament voted through the proposal on Wednesday.

In practice, this means above all that the clubs can get more help to counteract the negative consequences of the corona pandemic, but it also means that they do not have to pay as much in taxes, that the institutions are protected from relocation and they are exempted from certain noise regulations.

With today's announcement, the Riksdag is sending a strong but completely delayed message to the republic.

Music clubs are cultural institutions that shape the city's identity and are an integral part of its cultural and economic life, writes Pamela Schobeß, a member of the Berlin club commission in a statement that RA has read.
